This work of art is the Martin™ Gustat #2 trumpet mouthpiece. One of the most famous mouthpieces of all time, it was used by Miles Davis for most of his career. The Martin™ G2 is a faithful reproduction of Miles’ personal mouthpiece, and is engraved on one side with the legendary Martin™ logo and the designation “G2” on the reverse.
The mouthpiece isn’t shallow, but it has a pretty high alpha angle to give support in the upper register. The Gustat #2 has a sharper inner bite than the Gustat #1, but with moderately more cup volume and has a darker smoky sound. The cup walls have a nice slow curve to them, and while similar, it is not a “V cup”. The Martin™ G2 has a short shank, a small throat and a generous long backbore.
These mouthpieces are handcrafted for the consummate jazz player, with a balanced and smooth response in any register. The jazzy sound produced by our copy of Miles Davis’ original piece has a soulful quality that just can’t be matched by lower quality, mass produced imports.
